Create and unlock a vault

Last updated: 28 Jun 2026

First steps on se.nt2.me: display name, master password, lock, and multi-vault picker.

Who this is for

Anyone opening se.nt2.me for the first time, or returning to unlock an existing vault on this device.

What you need

TierFree
Vault stateLocked or no vault yet
NetworkOffline after the first successful app load
Feature toggleNone

Steps

Create a new vault

  1. Open the vault app and choose Create vault.
  2. Enter a display name—any label you recognize on this device (not your email).
  3. Choose a strong master password. It is used only inside your browser to derive encryption keys.
  4. Confirm creation. NT² generates a Vault Key DID, writes encrypted local storage, and opens the Dashboard.

Unlock an existing vault

  1. On the entry screen, pick your vault from the device list (by display name).
  2. Enter your master password.
  3. On a cold device (no prior unlock on this browser), you may also need your recovery kit (.nt2recovery)—see Recovery kit.
  4. Wrong password → unlock fails; no partial access.

Lock the vault

  • Settings → Security → Lock vault, or use the lock control in the app bar when available.
  • Locking clears decryption keys from memory immediately.

Auto-lock

After 5 minutes without keyboard, mouse, click, or touch activity, the vault locks. Refreshing the tab or closing it also requires unlock again.

Switch vaults on this device

  1. Lock or choose Switch vault from the dashboard header.
  2. Return to the entry screen and select another display name.
  3. Only one vault is unlocked at a time.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Your master password never leaves the browser—NT² cannot reset it. Keep backups.
  • Display name is for the local picker only; sharing identity uses your Vault Key DID (Settings → Security → Identity).
  • Do not confuse lock with delete vault—deletion wipes local data (see Delete a local vault).
