What are field types?

Field types are reusable column definitions; category templates pick which fields appear by default.
What is the difference between a field type and a category template?
A category template is a schema for one kind of asset (Credential, Document, …). A field type is a reusable building block (expiryDate, accountNumber, …) that templates compose. The same field type behaves the same everywhere it appears.
Can I add field types that NT² does not ship?
No. Custom templates and per-item extras choose from the built-in catalog only. See the field type reference.
Where do I pick field types in the vault app?
Enable Custom templates (preview tier), then use Add field when authoring a template, or Add field on an individual item for one-off extras.
